This sea snake was found washed up on a local South Coast beach. He or she had scrapes on their head and body, and was very weak and lethargic after being beached for 3 days.
He / she was transferred to specialist care on June 16th. I was up late and then up early to prepare for the transfer. I’m feeling tired but accomplished. As always when an animal leaves, I also feel sad to see them go but happy, they are going so well and will hopefully thrive until ultimately being released.
It was both terribly unhappy to leave the confines of its comfy little temporary environment. But after the drive it will be one step closer to being released and get back to its open ocean home. Go well you feisty little creature. It is always a pleasure to rescue and support their recovery and rehabilitation.
A huge Thankyou to all the ASTR carers involved in transporting the precious cargo.
If you see an injured Sea snake on the beach, please Do Not pick them up and throw them back in the surf. They are highly Venemous and have come in to shore as they are injured or diseased. You can do far more damage to the snake and it is further traumatised by attempting to return it sea like this. Please call Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue South Coast Branch on 0431282238.
